Asafoetida sollte in keiner Küche fehlen. Meist wird es mit anderen Gewürzen wie Ingwer, Kardamom und Steinsalz kombiniert und ist als Pulver und Paste erhältlich. Es hat einen stark knoblauchartigen Geruch, daher ist es ratsam Asafoetida in einem luftdicht abgeschlossenen Behälter aufzubewahren.
Im Gegensatz zu Knoblauch wirkt es nicht tamasisch (abstumpfend) auf die Sinne und den Geist. Weiterhin kräftigt nach Ayurveda Asafoetida Agni (das Verdauungsfeuer) und beruhigt Vata (das Luft/Ätherelement).
Asafoetida ist ein Harz, das in gemahlener Form eine Basissubstanz benötigt. Die Kombination mit Bockshornklee ist ideal.
